Eat Lots of this Ingredient if You Want Premature Wrinkles

I gotta tell you about the best thing that happened to me last weekend:

I went to a big dinner party to celebrate the birthday of a girl I met fairly recently.  She is a friend of my brother’s, so apart from a couple of people, I knew no one else there.

I went around introducing myself as Jeff’s sister, and at one point, a girl asked me,

Oh, are you his younger sister?

Now, you gotta get the significance of that question, because I am in fact 13 years older.

At this stage of my life, that question was one of the highlights of the decade!  But before I let it all go to my already inflated head, I recalled  a cartoon that a cheeky little friend of mine emailed to me a while back:

Yeah, so, I REALLY wanted to be offended, but leave it to my crude sense of humour – I had a pretty good chuckle.

Well, some of us have it pretty good when it comes to looking young.  But as this cartoon eloquently jokes:

My Asian genes will only get me so far.

Which means if I wanna keep lookin’ this good, it will require some external intervention (purely non-surgical, of course).  This is why I am going to let you in on one of my secrets to looking young and radiant for years to come, ‘cuz let’s face it: this girl’s gotta have your back, right?

The Common Ingredient You Want to Eliminate to Keep those Wrinkles at Bay

 Ya ready for it?

Drum roll, please……..it’s VEGETABLE OIL!  Ta-daaaaaa!

Before you freak out, don’t worry.  Olive oil and coconut oil are totally fine.  Love that stuff.  In fact, go forth and bathe in it.

What I’m talking about is stuff like corn oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, you name it.  They’re all wrinkle-making wonders.

Before we move on, let’s talk a little about one of the causes of premature aging

There’s a fancy buzzword that’s been thrown around a lot in the anti-aging cosmetic industry known as “free radical damage.”  It’s essentially a nasty by-product of a chemical process that happens when a substance comes in contact with oxygen. (Think of a slice of apple that browns when you leave it out.)

The more free-radical damage you have in your body, the more you’ll be prone to accelerated aging.  And not only that, you’ll put yourself at a higher risk for every degenerative disease known to humankind.

So How Does Vegetable Oil Promote Premature Aging?

We all have a layer of fat underneath our skin.  By eating large amounts of vegetable oils, we start to accumulate a disproportionate amount of these oils under our skin. And why is this relevant?

Because vegetable oils are very unstable fats, and therefore the most prone to free-radical damage.

Just like that slice of apple that is left to turn brown and mushy on your kitchen countertop, your skin is left defenceless against premature aging, wrinkling, brown-spotting (yes, I just made up that word, but you get my drift), and all kinds of icky stuff.  In other words, it gets older much, much faster than it should.

Ew! So what do I do, now?

First of all, if you have bottles of vegetable oil in your kitchen cupboard, do yourself a favour and toss it!  Toss it!!! NOW!

Ah…. doesn’t that feel better?  Well, that’s the easy part.

The bad news is, vegetable oil is EVERYWHERE.  It is used in almost every packaged food product and every major restaurant chain in the North American continent.  At the very least, avoid deep-fried foods, and cut-down on packaged and processed foods as much as you can.

But let’s face it, I don’t know a single soul who eats 100% perfectly.  So this is why I also take extra measures to keep my skin looking dewy-fresh and young.  Alas, that is a whole other article.  (I can’t dish it out all at once, you know!)
